A problems course allows the student to study a topic that is not taught through a formal course at MU. For example, we do not teach a course specifically on small gasoline engines. A student might need additional training in this area if they were to work for/manage a business like Columbia Lawn and Leisure. The adviser and student would then determine the core skills/competencies to be studied and draft a plan which would permit the student to lean these skills.
A “problems contract” would be developed by the student and then approved by his/her adviser.
The form is signed by both parties and filed for reference in their ASM departmental file, accessible by either student or faculty if needed. Upon completion of the project, the materials are submitted to the instructor/advisor for evaluation and/or grading.
